11 years ago during this month, Mario Kart Wii was released. Holy crap I feel old now. This and DS were my first MK games, both of them I got for Christmas 2008. This one is definitely one of my favorites in the series. There’s so many good tracks in this game. Speaking of, let’s talk about them, shall we?
It’s time to rank the MKW tracks from my least favorite to very favorite. Remember, this is my opinion. And also, I’m only doing nitro tracks. Retro tracks don’t count. Now let’s get started.
This page contains a list of cheats, codes, Easter eggs, tips, and other secrets for Mario Kart Wii for Wii.If you've discovered a cheat you'd like to add to the page, or have a correction, please. There's a great guide on how to get Star Ranks in the Mario Kart Wii board. It's stickied and is on the top of the first page. Here are some ways you can get Star Ranks - on just about any CC or course (as seen in the guide on the Mario Kart Wii Board).
#16 - Dry Dry Ruins (Special Cup)
This title is very accurate, because dang, this course is dry. I don’t know why, but I’ve never been a big fan of this track. It’s boring and there’s nothing special about it. Sure, there’s things in the road you can do tricks off of, but other than that, this course is mediocre.
#15 - Luigi Circuit (Mushroom Cup)
Just your average race track with a few speed boosts here and there. Design wise, this track is better, but again, not much special about it. Also it’s too short.
#14 - Mario Circuit (Flower Cup)
Another circuit track taking the low part of the list. This one does have an obstacle, like the Chain Chomp that will randomly jump out at you in the road, so try to avoid that. Other than that, like before, a basic race track. I do like the houses and Peach’s castle in the background though.
#13 - Moo Moo Meadows (Mushroom Cup)
The sequel to Moo Moo Farms from MK64. In this one, your driving through a farm....or a meadow technically, with cows that’ll start off in the grass, but will be walking in the road by the third lap, and Monty Moles digging through the ground which can slow you down if you drive where their digging. This track is alright, but I feel like it could’ve been better.
#12 - Wario’s Gold Mine (Flower Cup)
For this one, your pretty much driving on a roller coaster. There’s lots of driving up and down the tracks, and if your not careful, it’s easy to fall off. In the mine, there’s bats that
will fly at you and slow you down, and mine carts filled with gold driving on the track with you. The atmosphere is what I like most about the track. It really feels like an underground area you’d mine in.
#11 - Grumble Volcano (Star Cup)
Another track where the atmosphere feels real. Your driving through a volcano with lava everywhere. The volcano in the background will explode, and as that happens, parts of the road fall off, making it harder for each lap. Lava also shoots down on the track, slowing you down if you touch it. While I prefer the MK8 remake, the track is still pretty nice here.
#10 - Moonview Highway (Special Cup)
I get Toad’s Turnpike vibes from this one.....I guess that would be since this one has the same concept. Your driving through a city at night, featuring a bridge, tolls (operated by the Miis which I like), buildings, and cars. And holy shit, these cars are everywhere. Seriously, every time I play this track, I get hit by 20 cars. Yeah, the cars can be annoying, but I still like the challenge of trying to avoid them all. There’s literally a Bob-Omb car that blows up if you touch it. I’m pretty sure the person driving that wants to die or something. But the question is: which is harder? This or Toad’s Turnpike?
#9 - Rainbow Road (Special Cup)
Back in the day whenever I played this with my family or friends, they always hated it when I picked this track to play. For some reason, I really liked this Rainbow Road....although not as much as I do today. I like this one because it’s one of the more exciting rainbow roads. MK64’s was long and too easy making it impossible to fall off, 8’s felt out of place and didn’t feel like a rainbow road track, but this one has a “bumpy” portion letting you do tricks, speed boosts, curves, and tight turns. I also like how there are star bits flying around, and that if you fall off a cliff, your character catches on fire looking like a falling star. The road itself is mesmerizing too. I don’t know why, but the colors of the road just look amazing. While not my favorite Rainbow Road, still a pretty solid one.
#8 - Daisy Circuit (Star Cup)
I consider this to be one of the more exciting circuit tracks. Your driving through a little town next to an ocean. I think the yellowish sunset seemed to fit well for a Daisy track. I also like the statues of Luigi and Daisy together, as well as their baby counterparts. The track looks nice, and I like how Daisy Cruiser from Double Dash can be seen in the background.
#7 - DK Summit (Flower Cup)
This takes place on a snowy mountain. There’s a cannon that launches you to the mountain, you can do tricks on the walls, as well as ramps and piles of snow you can do tricks on. The red snow that slows you down is annoying, but luckily, it’s easy to avoid. Not so much in the part where you have to speed up on the walls and avoid the snowboarding Shy Guys however. Also am I the only one who finds it odd that there’s a Mario statue instead of a DK one considering this is his track? Anyway, back on topic, this track is fun to do lots of tricks on.
#6 - Toad’s Factory (Mushroom Cup)
This track is interesting. We’ve got conveyor belts that either slow you down or make you go faster and alternate every few seconds, as well as things that will crush you on said conveyor belts. They also move left and right carrying boxes that will slow you down. There’s also a part where you gotta use speed boosts to get through the mud or you’ll drive through it very slowly. While mostly being on the easy side, there’s still a few obstacles to make it slightly hard, and the layout of the track is nice too.
#5 - Bowser’s Castle (Special Cup)
This is one of the coolest Bowser’s Castle tracks in MK ever. As you drive in, the room is like “f**k gravity” and bounces around, letting you do tricks. Continue driving and you’ll find a giant Bowser statue shooting fire balls and you’ll have to drive on the walls to avoid them. Or risk it and drive through the middle ramp and risk losing speed if you go through the mud. There’s a speed boost you’ll have to time correctly, because right in front of it are rotating fire balls, so don’t hit them or it’ll mess up your jump and you’ll die. And lava geysers everywhere outside, with lava squirting out at random times. Also I gotta mention the music, it’s awesome and definitely fits with the tone of the track. With all the obstacles in this course, I could see this all being incorporated in a future mainline Mario game. Make that happen, Nintendo! Imagine how awesome that would be.
#4 - Maple Treeway (Star Cup)
As if I don’t say this enough, the atmosphere for this track is great. It’s autumn and everything is yellow, red, and orange, from the tree leaves to the ground. You get launched out of a cannon and you get to drive in a tree. There’s giant wigglers that get in the way and if you drive through a pile of leaves, sometimes you’ll get an item. It can be easy to fall off, but again, that’s part of the challenge I enjoy. Near the end, there’s a bridge that bounces around that you can do tricks off of. The track looks beautiful and is always a joy to play.
#3 - Koopa Cape (Star Cup)
This is another track I really love, but I don’t know why. It starts off with a few ramps, then you get to a river that moves forward to give you a bit more speed, which leads to a waterfall and a pipe where you drive through and get to see a ton of pipes with the eels popping in and out, and a circle of death (idk the name) spinning around that will shrink you if you touch it. I played this a lot back in the day, so nostalgia is why it’s up this high.
#2 - Mushroom Gorge (Mushroom Cup)
I freaking love this track. The concept for this is your jumping off of mushrooms and doing tricks off them. I always have so much fun with this one, and jumping off the mushrooms is always so satisfying. This is another course I played the shit out of back in the day, and I love it now just as much as I did then. But there’s one track that’s slightly better.
#1 - Coconut Mall (Flower Cup)
I know I said I played the last track a lot, but I think this is my most played track in MKW. This track is such a blast and very unique. Your driving through a freaking mall for crying out loud. There’s escalators that go either up and down, and change after each lap. There’s a store you can take a shortcut through, even though it actually slows you down. There’s a giant ramp that takes you outside to the parking lot where the Miis are drunk driving left and right. Their right in front of speed boosts so you have to time it if you don’t want to get hit and lose that speed. Whenever I played this game with friends or family, this track was always my first pick. Even to this day, i can’t get enough of Coconut Mall. Without a doubt, it’s my favorite track in Mario Kart Wii.
And that’s the list. Hope you enjoyed it. Do you agree with it? Let me know what your favorites are. See you later guys.
